“The Painter”
The painter who stands before art and draws reality. Perhaps he has a deeper insight into reality than many other people on our planet Earth. This quote goes wonderfully with this work of art: “What is admirable about the fantastic is that there is no longer anything fantastic: there is only the real.” ― André Breton
The original sketch
I have made a small pencil sketch before the creation, which I have underlaid in colour. My idea was to portray a painter who interchanges reality and his painting.
I was not particularly interested in the painter, but rather in the painting and the background. That's why there's no painter in the original sketch. But after all that editing, I'm glad there's one.
Matching pictures
For this artwork I used 5 pictures, which are all shown below. The background is a street at the end of which you can see the Eiffel Tower on the horizon. I applied a filter to the background to make it look like it was painted. Then I added a few digital brush strokes to blend everything. The color and mood was not important to me at this point.
Colors and atmosphere
When I put everything in the right place, it was all about the colours in the artwork. I wanted the painter to stand out slightly so that the focus would be on him and his painting first. I achieved this by blurring and slightly desaturating the background. After that I raised the low tones a bit. I also created a second version, which you can see below. In moonlight.
