“Colorful”
“Be uniquely you. Stand out. Shine. Be colorful. The world needs your prismatic soul!”
- Amy Leigh Mercree
The original sketch
Here you can see a small part of my inspiration: a self-painted whale. With felt pen and watercolor. I have kept it well and today for the first time in a long time brought out again. I thought, I'll make a new picture out of it. I scanned it and then cut it out digitally. Then I thought that he should swim above the ocean. In a surreal scene. Then I picked up the matching images on unsplash. All are linked below as always. At first the picture should look completely different. But through inspiration from many sides it has become so.
After a long time without suitable creativity, it now goes colorful into the new year 2022.
Matching pictures
After I found all the images, it was a matter of laying them all out appropriately and masking or deleting places where necessary. First I added the sky, which I had to extend upwards, otherwise the whale would not have fit on the picture. After that came the beautiful, colorful oil stain. I have been inspired by the color variety of fabolous Artist Fewocious. Finally, I added the moon and various constellations to round out the scene. At the end, someone was allowed to have a say in what else should be in the picture... another animal alongside the whale. Did you find it yet?
Colors and atmosphere
At the end it was about the colors, contrasts and brightnesses and depths. The picture was still too bright for me at the top and too dark at the bottom. I solved the problem with a light/dark gradient. Then I raised the depths a bit and changed a few color tones in the image that disturbed me and drew attention away. For example, the colorful bag next to the person in the foreground. I made it gray. After that I sharpened the image a bit more with a filter until I was satisfied.
I hope you like it. Stay surreal!
